Ethics and AI
With the use of digital technologies, and AI in particular, come pressing ethical questions. How will data be handled? How do we responsibly develop and use AI systems? How is trust maintained?

UWV is one of the largest implementing organizations in the Netherlands. Employee benefits such as the WW, WAO, WIA and WAZO benefits are administered by it. The UWV determines whether an employee is entitled to one of these benefits based on the legal frameworks and determines the amount and length of the relevant benefits. Eveline Jacobson will discuss the use of AI to support these decisions, and the ethical challenges they run into.

Prof. Dr. Jeroen van den Hoven – Scientific Director of the TU Delft Digital Ethics Centre – will connect these challenges to the work in Delft to operationalise ethical values. He works to connect philosophical discussions that concern ethical values with technical work on concrete problems, using the Design for Values methodology.

Together the speakers will explore how the ethical challenges at UWV impact their AI development and use.

Our Goal
This Meet Up group is set up to showcase the Artificial Intelligence (AI) ecosystem of Delft and Zuid-Holland, to inspire students and the surrounding area, and to give academia and industry a place to network.

The Meet Ups are a monthly event, where each time a new AI issue is put to the test. In our next edition – on October 20th – we will tackle the topic of AI and Bioscience together with a visiting speaker from DSM.

So keep an eye on the agenda!
