PhD workshop Symposium – Feminist AI: Shaping Ethical Futures
november 20 - 10:00 - 12:30
PhD Workshops
In addition to the symposium, we have PhD workshops on the 20th (morning) at Mondai | House of AI, Next Delft at TU Delft campus.
The PhD workshop investigates feminist approaches to generative AI by bringing together PhDs and other scholars from various fields to engage in cross- and inter-disciplinary discussions. Participants will have the opportunity to share their ideas and gain valuable feedback on their projects.
The workshops are organised by the Feminist Generative AI Lab, Mondai | House of AI and Convergence AI, D&D.
Important Note: Due to limited seating for the PhD workshop, registration does not guarantee a spot. Participants will be selected based on their research interests, with priority given to PhD candidates.
Programme November 20, 10:00 – 12:30
Duration: 2.5 hrs
Confirmed discussants (more details will follow): Laura Forlano, Joana Varon, Iohanna Nicenbaum
Location: Mondai, Molengraaffsingel 8, Delft
While AI is increasingly part of daily realities, concerns are arising from the lack of diversity in gender, race, and cultural narratives throughout its development and application. In this PhD workshop, we will explore the potential of feminist approaches, asking how AI can be informed by feminist theories, and be used in feminist projects (Adam, 1998).
The aims of the workshop are, first, to support PhDs in developing their projects through feedback and exchange. Second, to connect projects from different disciplines (computer science, social science, design, humanities, and more) and envision current and future directions of research.
The workshop takes ‘care’ as a starting point, and explores what it means to care for each other, including the more-than-human-world. We will work on ways to create a space where we not only exchange ideas and feedback, but where we can also engage with the world to pay attention to and care for those marginalized and erased by hegemonic practices.
