SUMMARY:Human Language Technologies Day at TU Delft
DESCRIPTION:(De voertaal van dit evenement is Engels) \nHuman language technologies are transforming the innovation landscape in society and industry. Recent advances in large language and multi-modal models have brought human language technologies to the forefront of AI. We are at a tipping point witnessing the drastic growth of HLT applications and their transformative impact on the way we communicate and interact\, with humans and with machines. \nComing along with the rapid increase of HLT usage\, however\, are pressing concerns about the inherent shortcomings of such technologies and the social and ethical implications. The stranglehold of the transformative technologies by private giants further raises the barrier to overcoming these challenges. Proper design\, deployment\, and adoption of HLT require open\, transdisciplinary research and innovation to offer insights into the scientific and practical challenges.  \nThe HLT community at TU Delft is organising the Human Language Technologies Day on May 17\, Mondai House of AI. The aim of the Day is to bring together researchers and practitioners in the field of language technologies to share their perspectives and insights from research and practical applications\, and ideas about the current challenges and future opportunities. This event features a list of invited talks by TU Delft researchers and practitioners from ING\, EMC\, Philips\, Booking.com\, and SURF.  \nHLT at Delft\nHLT at Delft is home to world-class researchers from broad socio-technical backgrounds\, collaborating with partners from a wide range of domains. A number of labs\, part of the TU Delft AI Labs & Talent programme\, are working on human language technologies. Together we are creating knowledge for the design\, development\, governance\, and use of the next generation of HLT that are reliable\, safe\, and trustworthy.  \nProgramme\n10:30 – 11:00 Meet & Greet\n11:00 – 11:10 Welcome Address\n11:10 – 11:35 Avishek Anand (WIS/EWI\, TU Delft) LLMs for Search and Question-Answering\n11:35 – 12:00 Aki Harma (Philips\, UM) Automatic Reporting in Healthcare Industry\n12:00 – 12:25 Fengjun Wang (Booking.com) MuMIC – Multimodal Embedding for Multi-label Image Classification with Tempered Sigmoid\n12:25 – 13:25 Lunch Break\n13:25 – 13:50 Paul Braakman (ING) ING’s Use Case for Communication Surveillance\n13:50 – 14:15 Ujwal Gadiraju (WIS/EWI\, TU Delft) A Different Language Is A Different Vision Of Life: Building Robust Human-Centered AI Systems\n14:15 – 14:40 Jiwon Jung (EMC) Data-enabled Design in the Field of Digital Health: Understanding hundreds of thousands of patient experience using human language technologies\n14:40 – 15:05 Senthil Chandrasegaran (IO\, TU Delft) Understanding and Simulating Design Practice through Language\n15:05 – 15:20 Break\n15:20 – 15:45 Stefan Buijsman (TBM\, TU Delft) Operationalizing Values in Human Language Technologies\n15:45 – 16:10 Matthieu Laneuville (SURF) How to Enable Easy Access to Public Value Driven Language Models: an Infrastructure Perspective\n16:10 – 16:55 Gerd Kortuem\, Olya Kudina\, Peter Lloyd\, w/ Jie Yang  Fireside chat: How can Human Language Technologies better serve Humans?\n17:00 Borrel!

SUMMARY:AI Lab Lunch: AidroLab & XAIT Lab
DESCRIPTION:[placeholder] \nIn deze AI Lab Lunch presenteren het Aidro Lab en het XAIT Lab zichzelf en hun laatste ontwikkelingen! \n(De voertaal van dit evenement is Engels) \nThe AidroLab brings together fundamental and applied AI to push the boundaries of science\, enabling resilient and sustainable urban water systems. Fast and accurate AI-tools are needed to model the physical processes within water networks and during flooding events. AidroLab believes that the most promising techniques to develop such tools are Graph Neural Networks or GNNs – an extension of deep learning to graph data structures. They are also exploring other AI-applications that can complement our GNN models and provide a thorough AI-based digital twin of (urban) water systems. \nThe XAIT Lab develops novel approaches that focus on the explainable aspect of AI for mobility. They incorporate explainability into three core modules within mobility decision support systems: state estimation\, prediction and optimization. This means integrating multimodal data\, contextual information and novel AI techniques into a single holistic digital twin platform. The result is augmented digital twinning methodologies with explainable AI techniques\, creating a new class of AI twins for cities. Such approaches provide tangible and concrete decision support that helps resilient cities to tackle urban problems such as evacuation\, energy\, long-term planning and infrastructure operations. \nNote for TU Delft PhDs\nPer 4 seminars from the AI (-related) seminar series: Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence Systems (HCAIS) Deep Dive; and Delft AI Lab Lunches\, PhD candidates from partaking TU Delft faculties can earn 0.5 GSC for up to 1.5 GSC (category: Discipline Related Skills). Check with your local Faculty Graduate School if they offer this option for earning GSC; and with your supervisors if they accept our seminars on your Doctoral Education list. If you already have form\, don’t forget to bring it with you \nAI Lab Lunch Serie\nDe Delft AI Lab Lunch is een maandelijkse meet-up georganiseerd voor en door de TU Delft AI Labs & Talent gemeenschap.
