During this AI Lab Lunch the CityAI Lab and HERALD will present themselves and their latest developments!

The CityAI Lab is the place where data, AI and behavioural theory come together. Their reseach focusses on unravelling how the urban environment and human behaviour dance a tango.

The HERALD Lab is all about Human-aware robust AI for automated driving. They develop novel AI methods that will enable automated driving systems to interact responsibly and robustly with the people around them.

The doors of Mondai will open at 12 o’clock, where lunch will be available. The labs start presenting at half past.

This event will be held in English.

Note for TU Delft PhDs: Per 4 seminars from the AI (-related) seminar series: Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence Systems (HCAIS) Deep Dive; and Delft AI Lab Lunches, PhD candidates from partaking TU Delft faculties can earn 0.5 GSC for up to 1.5 GSC (category: Discipline Related Skills). Check with your local Faculty Graduate School if they offer this option for earning GSC; and with your supervisors if they accept our seminars on your Doctoral Education list.

About CityAI Lab
Cities are hotspots of human activity that have increased our prosperity, happiness, and health. Yet the future liveability of cities around the world is under pressure as they face major social-technical challenges. Those challenges include crumbling social cohesion, income inequality, overcrowding of public spaces, and unhealthy local environments caused by factors such as heavy traffic and noise pollution. CityAI Lab examines the pivotal role that the urban environment plays in tackling such challenges.

Our research focusses on unravelling how the urban environment and human behaviour dance a tango. It capitalises on advances in machine learning and on the wealth of data available now at a city level. We combine these with established theories on planning and behaviour, hoping to contribute to the development of more attractive and liveable cities.

About HERALD
The advent of autonomous vehicles is one of the most anticipated technological developments of our time. But despite much progress in recent years, highly automated driving systems are still a long way from being able to drive freely on the streets of our cities. A major bottleneck on the road to the many potential benefits of these systems is their ability to share the road safely and efficiently with human-driven cars and pedestrians. This is a very complex issue, in which AI can play a decisive role.

HERALD Lab develops novel AI methods that will enable automated driving systems to interact responsibly and robustly with the people around them. To do this we will combine machine learning, cognitive modelling, control theory and multi-agent simulations. Ultimately, our goal is to lay the groundwork for a new generation of autonomous vehicles that are truly reliable partners for the people around them.
